KANT translates to \"edge\" from Danish, referring to something unconventional, exciting and new, which doesn’t immediately fit inside a box and dares to be different. These characteristics perfectly sum up the music of young Copenhagen producer Joachim Schaarup-Jensen. After causing waves with releases on Katermukke, Suara and Kittball, we welcome KANT to Light my Fire with the excellent ‘Switch’ EP.
The title track ‘Switch feat. Anne Kim Thordson’ is a chugging house monster that focuses on a seductive female spoken-word accentuated by heavy hits, ominous synths and a pumping kick drum: reduced, yet lethal. Next, ‘Shook’ is more laidback as it revolves around a tropical Balearic theme with impressive flow. On their ‘Switch’ remixes, Artenvielfalt opt for a jazz-infused drum intro, which drops into a peak-time deep house groove to dazzling effect, while Kreature delivers an old school workout of 303-goodness. Danish dynamite!
