On his LMF007 ‘Once upon a Time’, Björn Störig proves that funk and soul is flowing through his veins. Thus, he presents us two new original productions, complimented by a Marlon Hoffstadt & HRRSN, as well as a Matordi Hristov reinterpretation.
The title-track ‘Once upon a Time’ kicks things off – a disco bomb, which turns out to be an homage to the musical heyday of the late 70s thanks to cleverly placed vocal samples, classic strings and catchy synth-stabs. A gripping bass-line and sharp groove add a contemporary edge, moreover. Get funky! The up-and-coming duo Marlon Hoffstadt & HRRSN then shift the track into 80s territory on their remix, focussing on a wild synth melody, while HRRSN’s distinctive vocals will cause unforgettable dance-floor moments.
Next, ‘Wanna Know’ is equally vivid. Slightly less retro oriented than ‘Once upon a Time’, one encounters impressive rhythmic elements that reflect Björn’s background as a drummer. Soulful sounds do play an important role here, too, as guitar-licks and an organ drive things forward. To round things off, Metodi Hristov appropriates these to dazzling effect on his remix.
LMF007 ‘Once upon a Time’ – far from being yesterday’s news!
