Next up on Light my Fire we present the debut release of Renato Ratier, founder and resident DJ of one of Brazil’s top clubs, D.Edge in Sao Paolo. While his sets have long ago secured him a reputation in the scene and a deep running understanding of music is being displayed by his club’s booking policy, his productions will no doubt catapult Ratier into the big league.
‘True Love’ is a tasteful slice of high quality deep house that is going to settle well in warm-up and after hour sets alike, which is perhaps testament to Ratier’s own DJ history. Starting things with a rough, old-school sounding kick, ‘True Love’ quickly gives way to an engaging bass-line, subtle bells and romantic piano melodies. Soon enough a charming vocal motif unfolds to captivate the listener, while driving hi-hats lend the arrangement plenty of momentum.
Both Animal Trainer and Niko Schwind then showcase their takes on ‘True Love’. While the Swiss boys speed things up to peak time territory on their energetic remix, highlighting an elastic bass and sharp percussion, Schwind enters Italo-disco territory thanks to a synthesized octave bass-line, thus lending Ratier’s original an epic touch.
